Why aren't the links working in the Weekly Roundups?
The links in our Weekly Roundup emails are tested before we send them out to ensure they work. However, some members still have trouble opening them. The most common reason for this is that they are not logged into their Facebook account beforehand or their request to join the ICE group has not yet been approved. If you already have access to the ICE group and are logged into your Facebook account before clicking the roundup links, they should work fine.
If you have checked the above and are still having trouble, you may be experiencing a known issue that occurs with certain email clients on mobile devices.
The issue is that when you try to open Facebook links from any email (not just ours), it may not open with your Facebook app (where you are already signed in).
Instead, it may default to your email app's "built-in browser" (where you may not be signed into your Facebook account). This is why you are seeing the error message. This is an ongoing issue in the Apple/Android community, not just with Inner Circle emails.
Here are two ways to get past the error screen:
- First method - Log into your Facebook account within your email app's built-in browser. When you get to the error screen, you'll see a blue login button below it. Click the button and sign into Facebook, then re-click the link in the email. It should now open correctly.
(The biggest problem with this approach is that your email app might not store your login session, so you may have to re-login the next time you restart your phone.)
**iPhone/iPad users:** On the Facebook error screen, you should see a button (at the top) to open the link using the Facebook app. Click that, and it should open in the Facebook app (where you should already be logged in). Unfortunately, until Apple provides a way to configure this as a default, you will have to press this button every time.
- Second method - Configure your email app to open all links using your phone's default internet browser. This will turn OFF your email app's built-in web browser. (The following are general instructions that should apply to the most widely used email apps.)
a. Open your email app's settings. Look for a setting to "open all links with an external browser" and select it.
b. Now open a Facebook link from an email. It should ask you to select which browser you want to open it with. Choose your preferred browser. If you are already logged into Facebook in that browser, the link should open fine. If not, you will see the same error message, which means you need to sign into Facebook on that browser.
We apologize for this frustration. Unfortunately, this is an issue that can only be ultimately fixed by Android and iPhone developers. We hope these workarounds have helped. Please let us know if you need additional assistance or have any other questions.
